UNDERSTANDING ISLAM

Islam is increasingly a topic of international discourse, and as curiosity about this religion grows, whether through Saudi funded TV ads or billboards on the sides of public buses declaring that Islam is another Abrahamic faith, it behooves us to understand just what it's about. The verses from the Quran quoted herein are from the most widely recognized English language translation by Yusuf Ali.

The single most important verse in the Quran for gaining a perspective in understanding is:

Sura 4:157 That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah";- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:-

Through this single verse the Quran rejects ALL of the New Testament prophets and apostles and the WHOLE SUBJECT of the new covenant, which is salvation through the crucifixion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Romans 3:25 Whom God hath set forth [to be] a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

The sacrifice of the Lamb without spot who saves all from sin who have faith in His blood. The new covenant, that was prophesied in the Old Testament and fulfilled in the New, that brought Gentiles into God's plan of salvation. The "Good News" of Jesus Christ.

Far beyond simply ignoring the crucifixion Islam SPECIFICALLY REJECTS Jesus shed blood. From a Christian perspective there is really nothing else that needs to be known about Islam. Perhaps the most blessed and widely quoted verse in all of Christianity, that also provides an excellent single verse summary, is:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Considering the prior sura it should come as no surprise that Mohammed's answer is:

Sura 19:88 They say: "(Allah) Most Gracious has begotten a son!" 89 Indeed ye have put forth a thing most monstrous!

The most important fundamental in Islam is "shirk", or anti-polytheism, manifest specifically in denial that God has a Son. There could be no greater sin committed by a Muslim then if one were to confess that Jesus is the Son of God.

1John 4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

There are at least 47 verses in the New Testament that call Jesus the "Son of God", 64 that refer to Him as "the Son", and 10 that declare He is begotten of God, let alone another 234 that refer to God as the Father in which many Jesus declares God to be His Father. No amount of ecumenism can change that, from a Christian perspective, Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

But Mohammed didn't stop there:

Surah 9.30 The Jews call 'Uzair a son of Allah, and the Christians call Christ the son of Allah. That is a saying from their mouth; (in this) they but imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say. Allah's curse be on them: how they are deluded away from the Truth!

So Mohammed's Allah specifically curses Jews and Christians for believing in the promised, and the fulfilled, Son of God. In Old Testament prophecy:

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

The New Testament on the subject of Mohammed's denial of the Son of God:

1John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. 23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: [(but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also].

As we have seen Islam is so perfectly the opposite of Christianity it should give even a devout atheist pause to consider the odds of 1.5 billion people, or 1/4 of mankind, in the grip of the only anti-another-religion, religion, by design. Scriptural evidence should suggest to Christians that Islam is a specifically antichrist cult proffered by a single, violent, false prophet, who was, and taught, the stunning opposite of Jesus Christ and the Word of God. These people are in desperate need of a being brought the Gospels by a church, so much of which, has demonstrated indifference to their plight for far too long.
